Duke Collections Greenhouse

Year of Design: 2005
Project Description:
Electrical design for a new collections greenhouse building. Electrical design consisted of power, lighting, site lighting, fire alarm and telecommunication. Special lighting and controls were designed for plant growth.
 

Genome Center Renovations

Year of Design: 2005
Project Description: 
Project included plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection design and limited construction services required for renovations at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy Center. Proposed renovations included converting lab space into three lab support rooms (Tissue Culture Room, Fly Room and Equipment Rooms),  converting a conference room into two semi-private office spaces, and converting an open office area into one private office.

 

Levine Science Research Center

Cognitive Lab Renovation

Year of Design: 2007

Project Description:  The HVAC system utilized the existing duct mains and reworked the existing branches and terminal reheat units. The existing wall mounted units remained. The existing Grow Room back-up unit was removed. A new split system heat pump was installed for the Server Room.  The electrical systems for the project consisted of power, lighting, fire alarm, and telecommunication conduit design. The fire protection system consisted of new sprinklers tied onto the existing piping.  The plumbing consisted of upgrades to the gas, waste and water piping to accommodate the renovation.

Fort Interdisciplinary Research Center Computer Room UPS
Year: 2006
Project Description:
An additional UPS was added to the 1000 square feet main computer room in the Interdisciplinary Center. The project involved providing a new 50 kVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) to the IRC Computer Room. Branch circuits were added under the raced floor and to both the telephone room and secondary network room. A demand meter was added to the existing Automatic Transfer Switch to monitor the emergency system.

Adding new fire alarm systems to existing two story, 27,575 square foot (approx.) laboratory building. Systems are designed to comply with the NCSBC, NFPA 72, SCO Electrical Guidelines, North Carolina Department of Insurance Requirements and North Carolina State University Fire Alarm Standards.

Added new fire alarm systems to existing twelve story, 72,000 square foot (approx.) residence hall. Systems were designed to comply with the NCSBC, NFPA 72, SCO Electrical Guidelines, North Carolina Department of Insurance Requirements and North Carolina State University Fire Alarm Standards.

Hazardous Waste Storage

Year of Design: 2007

Project Description: The project involves the construction of a 1000 square foot Hazardous Storage Building. The building will be built at the location of a retaining wall that currently houses two small portable storage buildings. The building will be one large open area.


Leazer Hall Communication
Year of Design: 2004

Project Description: The project involved new telecommunication wiring for NC Stateís Leazar Hall. Leazar Hall is a three story, 57,000 square foot classroom building. The telecommunication systems for the project consisted of cabling, patch panels, jacks, racks, etc. as required to meet NC State University Wiring Standard 2.0.


McKimmon Center Room Renovation

Project Description:
Interior Renovation of 12,000 square foot main meeting room.  Renovation included power for new movable partitions, relocation of approximately 30 telecommunication outlets and 3 new power/data floor boxes. 
 

RENCI Interior Upfit
Year of Design: 2006
Project Description:
Interior upfit of 3000 sq. feet of unoccupied space on the first floor of Partners I.  Space was reconfigured to include conference room, editing suite, equipment room, meeting space and office cubicles.  Electrical design included lighting, power, fire alarm and telecommunication raceway.  The existing 72kVA UPS was replaced with a new Powerware 80 kVA UPS.  The computer room was switched to emergency power prior to replacing the UPS

Western Manor Apartments
Fire Alarm Replacement

Project Description:
Adding addressable fire alarm systems in nine apartment buildings totaling 118 units in the recently purchased Western Manor. Systems are designed to comply with the North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire Alarm Requirements and North Carolina State University Fire Alarm Standards.
Proposed Construction Cost: $313,000

Fire Alarm

Year: 2007
Project Description:
The project involved providing a new addressable fire alarm system for the 5,300 square foot Print Shop and 24,973 square foot Storage Room.

 

Durham Technical Community College

White Building Renovations

Year of Design: 2007

Project Description: This project included a renovation of approximately 53,000 square feet. The renovation included demolition of a portion of the cafeteria, renovation of the Security Building Annex, and a small entrance addition towards the East end of the White Building. The project scope included an overhaul of the existing electrical and mechanical systems, reworking existing toilets to make them ADA accessible, and the addition of new gang toilets toward the East end of the building. Coordination with the Owner to provide building technologies was included with a minimum of six computers per classroom, ceiling mounted projectors, telephone and data in each office. 

 

White Building Boiler Replacement

Year of Design: 2010

Project Description: The project included the replacement of the existing fire-tube hot water boiler serving the White and Collins Buildings on the main campus of Durham Technical Community College. An existing cast-iron section boiler remains in operation as a backup/redundant boiler. The existing boiler to be replaced is 3,500 MBH output and 134 boiler HP. Spring Stoops McCullen Engineering investigated the feasibility of replacing the existing boiler with a single cast iron sectional boiler, multiple copper fin tube atmospheric boilers or multiple high-efficiency condensing type boilers. The final design and construction documents were based on the two (2) copper fin tube boilers. A boiler sequencing control system was also designed and specified to automatically control the existing and replacement boiler operations. New primary circulating pumps and piping arrangement were also designed for the existing and replacement boilers.

 

807 Bacon Street Renovations

Year of Design: 2005

Total Construction Cost: $569,798

Project Description: This existing 13,000 square foot facility was once used by a local manufacturing company for lab and office space. The renovation converts the space into shop classrooms and office space for administrative staff in marketing and research. The HVAC design completes the air distribution system that our engineers worked on while employed by another firm. The system included VAV reheat terminals plus stand-alone ventilation and heating systems for the shops. Construction was completed in 2006.

Project Description: Project involves the replacement of chillers at the Phillips and ERC buildings. The scope of the project includes the design for the replacement of the chillers and any piping and pumps as necessary.
